Below is a concise narrative covering my career history, from a fresh-faced graduate to the grizzled industry-leader I am today.
Early (junior) days
I joined Green Cathedral (a new media agency) in 2006 as a junior. Over the next 1yr 7 months I quickly progressed to a middleweight developer focusing on content-managed web-builds, multi-lingual email campaigns and innovative front-end development.
I worked on The Open University, Which?, Cadburys, Center Parcs and a number of smaller regional businesses during this period.
Moving into senior roles
Green Cathedral was later bought out by Golley Slater to become Golley Slater Digital. At this point I progressed to the status of senior developer, working on accounts such as TK Maxx, Samsung, The Army. ENO, Clarityn, BMW and Business Link - in addition to the accounts carried over from Green Cathedral.
I progressed to lead the development output of the agency and working from their London office, working with a growing number of off-shore outsourcing partners and in-house contractors.
Moving into leadership roles
I later joined Graymatter Limited, a marketing agency based in Milton Keynes as a senior developer to add stability to their largest digital account - Vauxhall. Over this period I endeavoured to introduce more robust processes and ways of working to improve the digital output. Vauxhall Fleet then went on to win "best manufacturer website" for 5 consecutive years (back-to-back wins had never been achieved prior to this).
In addition to Vauxhall I also worked on Chevrolet, Volkswagen Financial Services, Mercedes, BP, World Vision UK, The Milton Keynes Council and a number of brands underneath the Accor Hotels umbrella.
Becoming CTO
In Spring 2019 I was presented with an incredible opportunity to follow my love of automotive (and a career aspiration of more senior leadership) and became CTO of SalesMaster. This role allows me to focus on long-term projects in a business teed up for enormous growth.
I'm an avid Leeds United fan and an active writer, so I combine these loves by authoring I Hate Leeds - a fanzine/blog about Leeds United. I'm also an active writer for The Square Ball.
I'm also a heavy consumer of Netflix and a lover of film. I'm annoyingly invested in Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and comic-book movies. Ask me about why Rogue One is better than A New Hope, or why Tom Bombadil is a completely unnecessary character.
I love heavy metal (and attend shows regularly), video games and cars.
I lived in the Midlands until the age of 18. I graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2006 and relocated to work in Cambridge. In 2010 I started working in central London (commuting from Cambridge) before moving to Milton Keynes later that year.
I'm a strong advocate for Milton Keynes generally with our autonomous delivery robots, millions of trees and fantastic cycle-ways.
I'm not actively seeking work of any kind right now, but I'm always happy, ready and willing to offer advice.
